Privacy Policy
Babel Hebrew · Last updated 21 August 2026
Babel Hebrew ("the app") is made by Adam Goldberg. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and who it is shared with. The app has no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and none of your data is sold.
What is collected
- Account details — your email address and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Apple or Google, the app stores the identifier that service gives it instead of a password. Optionally a display name.
- Your study content — the decks, cards, notes, and mnemonics you create, plus your review history (which cards you saw, how you rated them, and when).
- Photos you choose to import — images you pick or capture to generate cards from. The app only accesses the specific photos you select.
- Voice recordings — audio you record when using pronunciation practice or live conversation. Recording only happens while you are actively using those features.
- Conversation history — messages you exchange with the in-app AI tutor.
Why it is collected
Solely to make the app work: to keep you signed in, to sync your decks and progress across launches and devices, and to produce AI-generated cards, translations, and pronunciation feedback in response to your requests. Your content is never used for advertising or profiling.
Consent before anything is sent
The AI features are off until you turn them on. The first time you use one, Babel shows a full-screen notice naming exactly what is sent, which companies receive it, why, and how long it is kept, with Agree and Continue and Not Now buttons. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose Agree. If you decline, the rest of the app — decks, card editing and the entire spaced-repetition study flow — works normally.
You can withdraw consent at any time under Settings › Privacy. Doing so stops all transmission to these companies immediately.
Where it goes
Data is stored in a private Postgres database hosted on Railway, and is only accessible to your own account. When you use an AI feature, the content needed for that request is sent from Babel’s server to:
- Google LLC (Gemini API) — the text you type or paste, photos you select for photo-to-cards, the words on cards you ask Babel to work with, and microphone audio recorded during pronunciation practice and live translation. Used for card generation, translation, sentence writing, transcription and pronunciation feedback. See Google’s API terms.
- ElevenLabs Inc. — the text of cards and messages you ask Babel to read aloud, and the microphone audio streamed during a spoken tutor session. Used for text-to-speech and the conversational tutor voice. See the ElevenLabs privacy policy.
Only the content needed for that specific request is sent, and only when you invoke the feature. Your account credentials are never shared with either company. Both are bound by their API terms to provide protection of your data equal to or greater than that described in this policy; they process it solely to return the requested result, and neither is permitted to use it for advertising or to sell it. Nothing is shared with anyone else.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept until you delete it. You can delete individual cards and decks in the app at any time. To delete your entire account — including every deck, card, image, recording, and study record — email goldberg.adam@icloud.com from the address you signed up with, and it will be permanently erased.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
